Not only does the app still function at a rudimentary level, I just realized they have enacted a 75% price increase several months ago. Never notified, and the in app purchase prices listed in this app listing still show the old prices. So now we are are paying more money, that we were never notified about, for an app that works worse at each release. I have been patient, but this is ridiculous. Time to start looking at the NYT or the Herald. Globe you have really lost it
This is at least the third revision of this Ap and it remains buggy and unresponsive. Many days I need to remove it and reload a new version from the iTunes Store in order to get it out of a frozen state. Horrible piece of code here.
I might be willing to pay $15 a month for this app if it were a really good app and nice way to read the paper. But I dont know whether or not it is, and Im not going to pay $15 to find out. Would be nice to have a week or even a few days to test it out for free, which is kinda standard on all other forms of subscription media.
Possibly the worst app I have ever used. Boston Globe should be embarrassed they allowed this to be released to their clients. If the goal was to disappoint users to the point they would never use this app again they succeeded. My 9 year old son could code a better experience than this. Someone should be fired. Talk about not listening to your customers! Latest version is even worse. Crashes constantly. Here is the latest error message I received after deleting the app and reinstalling the latest "nothing to show. There are no view controllers in this project. Please open it in editor mode and add one". Now that is really helpful. What a joke.
Imagine that you pull a book from a shelf in the hopes of reading it. You imagine that after youve read a few pages the book closes by itself and returns by itself to the shelf. You take the book from the shelf again, find the page you were reading, read a few more pages, and the book again closes by itself and returns to the shelf. Over and over again. Thats what trying to read todays Sunday Globe from my iPad is like. Totally frustrating. A great newspaper deserves a much better app than this one.
Save your self the trouble and just drive to the store and pick up the paper everyday. It will be faster and more reliable than this (cr)app.
This app is terrible. Blows up at least 3-4 times every issue. Incredibly slow download speed. I could go by paper before download complete some Sundays. Its not my ISP either. It hangs all the time when it does not fail. I am close to cancelling subscription over it. Have dealt with it for a year and its always the same
Why cant the Globe get this app fixed so it is reliable. Regular crashes, wont download, sometimes pages stay enlarged. It is something different all the time. Do other major newspaper apps have this mess?
When it works its great. Two big problems and lots of little ones. When download to read later, like on a plane, 80% of time will later not load unless connected to internet. If keep open while still connected usually works, but if close and open anew in air, out of luck. New problem just discovered. When you delete a paper it is not removed from memory. Checking storage found I had almost 5 gigs of memory use and all papers had been deleted. Trued restarting phone. Still there. Had to remove app and reload to free memory. Little things are inability to link to other pages as in first version, bottom page index shows for 5 seconds and disappears and cannot be brought back, and about 20% of time all pages dont load. Have to remove and download again.
Upgraded to an app that doesnt work. Time to cancel - since Im getting literally nothing for my subscription fee. Very frustrated.
I am so frustrated with this app. It will be ok for a few days and then I wont be able to download the paper at all or it will require several attempts. Right now, I cant access it at all. I want to support the Globe, but I would like to actually have access to the paper!

This app on Ipad is not reliable. Frequently, after having downloaded the day’s paper while connected to WiFi, I experience the app either crashing, articles not maximizing to full screen, or articles simply not loading and I am left with a blank white screen. I experience these problems after downloading the paper and then disconnecting from WiFi. I love the Globe but hate this app, it needs serious work done to it.
I move around a lot, so it would be too difficult to get the actual paper. Ive always loved the Boston Globe and downloaded the app, and its just so bad. It looks sloppy, it has a lot of glitches, and overall just seems like the Globe doesnt care about it. Whether they like it or not, more and more are relaying on digital news, and if they cant at least put some effort into making their app usable then the Globe is eventually going to go out of business.
The app works, but it loads really really slowly. And I cant say I like the representation of it. You cant possibly present the whole newspaper to readers on a phone or even a tablet. I read New York Times on my phone everyday, and it works great. Every medium has its idiosyncrasy. Globe shouldnt just dump the print paper on the phone and expect it to works. It reminds me of New Yorker (that uses the same approach) and I hate it. I dont think Ill ever read the Globe in app and just go back to browser on PC whenever Im working. Its really a pity.
Works great on my iPhone, now that they have fixed many of the minor issues with the app. No complaints.
This last version has really given me problems on my iPad Mini with iOS 10.1.1. When I turn the iPad to the 2-page landscape view, the app crashes. ALL THE TIME. MULTIPLE TIMES.
The Globe did not downloaded more quickly today. If you made a change , it is not for the better yet! So frustrating Very frustating app! It takes for ever to download and has frequent error messages and it crashes when there are certain photos. I dont want to give it up but I think I will have to.
This version is better than the previous one on the iPad but its inevitable crashing (happens almost every day) forces me to use the online version.
