worst newspaper app

This is completely unnavigable. A really, really awful newspaper app. 1. Freezes frequently so I cant open articles or move to the next article. 2. While I can change the text size so I can actually read it, when I go to another article, it defaults back to the small text size, so I have to adjust the size of each and every article I read. 3. Scrolling through articles (as opposed to pages) doesnt show every page. For example, you cant see the comics this way. 4. Navigation between sections is hard because the menu is not labelled in a way that you know what is in each section. 5. Back to comics: almost impossible to find. There is no index. All you can do is scroll through pages until you happen upon them. Only the app freezes pages all the time so you cant actually swipe through. 6. The thumbnails on the bottom appear when you open the edition. When you close them--so that you can actually see the page--there appears to be no way to get them back except by going back to the homescreen and starting over again. I am sure there are many, many other problems here. I dont know why smaller town papers have much better e-readers. The Union Leader, for example, which is a terrible paper, has a great e-reader. Very, very, very disappointed and we will probably not renew our subscription because of this unreadable app.

Broken

Echo all the other one-star reviews. This app cant even save the page where I am reading. If I leave the app and come back, I have to start over from page 1 and find where I left off. How hard is it to save a bookmark!!!

First the disastrous physical delivery of the paper and now this app. Totally useless. Fix it ASAP or lose another customer

Jackpot!

Will you now try to build an even slower, clumsier, clunkier app, or have we all agreed that with this one, youve hit the jackpot? ZERO STARS The entire New York Times downloads in seconds. Easy as pie to navigate and read. The relatively puny Globe took me a long 3 1/2 minutes to download this morning and he layout is a mess. Sorry guys...you e lost your way.

I hate the new program

Saturday March 19.... Cant read Globe without the program crashing... On iPad .. Globe has a lot of work to do....... I have been trying to read for the last 15 minutes and have given up.... Please fix...

Crash Central

I would love to READ the paper on my iPad as well as paper for convenience. The present version should be called Crash. I can only get a few pages before.........CRASH!!!

Constantly crashes

As of the latest update, this app is utterly useless. It cannot progress beyond the third or fourth page without crashing. It also crashes consistently if you try to open a story or magnify a page. The previous version, while occasionally unable to focus when a new page was loaded, was at least stable and virtually never crashed.

Please test app before foisting on us.

Again, the application crashes whenever I try to open the daily download. By far, the worst performing application on my desktop. On average, I have a problem with downloading the current days issue once every two weeks. Thats about a 7% failure rate, with which the Globe apparently is OK. Seems a little high to me. For example, todays edition will not download. In the process of downloading, it continues to switc to "Pause". No explanation, no communication from the newspaper (maybe its only me with the issue, but I doubt it from the tone of many other reviews here). Other days, the current issue does not arrive until late in the day, if at all. In the future, please test the application and issue fixes or patches to correct.

A total fail

I had to upgrade from the actually usable, navigable, easy to use older version I used on my iPad 1 - now I must suffer the unbelievably lame, bug ridden, reading app I have ever used. Navigation is maddening, unresponsive to repeated swipes, the page display at the bottom is illegible And disappears when I touch it then takes me nowhere. We should all get. Best of all when I try to send feedback the button is unresposive!

Something new each day

Theres something oddly fascinating about seeing what will go wrong with the app each day. Often something new! Today the paper downloaded just fine, but then the app crashes whenever I try to open to read. Yes, Globe, I do have the latest updates. Worst app ever!

Just awful

Same problems as others but today it keeps crashing. I cant get past page 5.

Worst app ever

This is the worst app that I have ever used. I cannot understand why they switched from the old app. I must have complained over 20 times to customer service since the new app launched. This is just a fraction of the time that Ive had incredibly bad experience. Even when it downloads I am continually asked for Internet connection. This becomes increasingly frustrating when I am flying and do not have access to Internet. Customer service is not any better. How many times are they going to tell me to update to the latest version or to clean out my storage. Neither one of these fix the bugs that they should catch prior to the release. A high schooler could build a better application than this one.

Getting Worse with each update

Hard to believe a nation read newspaper cannot support an app that lets you read it product. No wonder the globe is in such a financial mess. 1. Crashes on iPad at least once a week. 2. Too many clicks needed to get to the article navigation sections 3. Hard to read paper from article to article under certain click trees. 4. Frequently the navigation function does not work so you have to zoom in on anything to read 5. Articles sometimes have italicize y for no reason that I am able to discern 5. Does not automatically downlood.

Terrible App Performance

Embarrassing that new ownership would allow this app to continue. Sometimes works, often does not. Boots me off. Sometimes does not open. Awful performance...and I am paying for it. Great!!!

A little feedback please?!

Ive been hanging in there for a few months waiting for the app developers to take care of the numerous, significant, issues that have been well documented in all of the other reviews. Could someone please let us all know what the timeline is for fixing these problems - should I cancel service for a few months and just rely on my New York Times subscription in the meantime? Very discouraged with the lack of communication about a incredibly poor product (upgrade?!?)- for many years I enjoyed reading the Globe on my iPhone, now I hardly look at it at all given the unbelievably unappealing interface experience. Please show more urgency in fixing this!

Pathetic

The latest app is simply terrible. At least the previous app always gave access to a feedback option when things (frequently) didnt work. This app fills the screen with the Globe logo and the word loading - even when it is not loading at all - I try to read it on an iPad and often must re-boot to get it to load. Today I cant even do that - I get some error message (not the usual one about not having an Internet connection, even though I do) that I do not understand and cant do anything about.

Infinite Negative Stars

This app is just incredibly, unspeakably awful and anyone associated with foisting it upon the public should be condemned to a special Tenth Circle of Hell. This is not joke review. The Boston Globe app team should be mortified.

Horribly annoying app

This app for the iPhone just doesnt work. Constant error messages. Pages dont load. Its beyond annoying to be paying for a subscription to read on the train in the morning only to fight the app during the ride and give up and do a quick read from my work computer.
