This is terrible upgrade. Today I can not even open the app. Passwords wont work.

A quick follow up on the review Id written about half a year ago (below) - just wanted to say "thanks!" for addressing a number of the problems - still a few loading issues as others have noted, but appreciate your taking care of most of the other issues - much more enjoyable to read now! Previously written: Ive been hanging in there for a few months waiting for the app developers to take care of the numerous, significant, issues that have been well documented in all of the other reviews. Could someone please let us all know what the timeline is for fixing these problems - should I cancel service for a few months and just rely on my New York Times subscription in the meantime? Very discouraged with the lack of communication about a incredibly poor product (upgrade?!?)- for many years I enjoyed reading the Globe on my iPhone, now I hardly look at it at all given the unbelievably unappealing interface experience. Please show more urgency in fixing this!
This app crashes every time I use it, multiples times during the reading of the paper. It seems like it consistently crashes on the last page of B section. It freezes, then exits out of the app and you have to re-start the app.
Some days takes too long to load, other days boots right up. Section tabs missing regular sections. Frequently gets held up on a page, cannot advance, or go back or use tabs. Sometime a restart clears this up, today it cannot advance through weekend section. At least 2-3 times a week crashes mid read. Why do I pay for this?
I love the Boston Globe. They have some of the best reporting, in depth stories and informative articles among US Newspapers. Unfortunately the Boston Globe app is so horribly displeasing to the eyes. I love the Todays paper feature, but clicking on an article brings up a clunky screen with a thick black line at the top and bad font. Although, this sounds shallow, its hard to read. Please, if possible Re-do the apps look. I really want to resubscribe, but for now I use the Washington Post App. Ill check back in soon with the hope of being able to enjoy The Boston Globe app.
Its been months and the app is still a piece of crap. It crashes constantly and the digital editor at the Globe obviously doesnt care. What else does he have to do but ensure that the content gets delivered? The new app is a bigger pos than one would believe possible from an institution as big as the Globe. It wont load, is clunky to use, ugly, and totally worse than the previous one which worked fine. Why the Globe changes things that work for things that dont demonstrates a stunningly dysfunctional and incompetent bunch of managers. The Boston Herald app works perfectly. The Globe should call them for advice. Dec 12,2016 The app is still terrible. An amateurish, cheap, throwaway piece of software that the management obviously could give a crap about. Absolutely frustrating and pathetic. PS. "Thunder" who wrote a tribute review for this app must be the father of the 8th grader who wrote the software.
I love doing the crossword , but more than half the time, when I go to print it out, nothing shows on the print preview page or will print. this app is not great, but is still my preferred way of reading the globe, barring the expensive paper delivery option. please put more effort into it!
The Globe app is lousy. You have to keep picking what you want to read from an illegibly small icon of the overly long newspaper image. Charming but impractical idea, even on a large computer screen unless you have Portrait rotation available. But on a phone its just annoying. I read the NYTimes on my phone all the time, no problem. Globe, why dont you just use your parent companys app??
The whole technology department at the Globe needs to be re-worked. The App constantly freezes and must be re-loaded. You cannot turn your subscription off if you go o vacations but rather spend endless hours with their tech line whom are both rude and unhelpful. The paper is good but their technology is in the Middle Ages.
This app works great on the iPhone Plus. I can see an image of each page and zoom in to what I want to read or tap on an article to read it in a reader view which is great for speed reading. Works for all but small blurbs. No need to jump to other pages to continue reading a long article. All photos and graphics are perfectly reproduced. Great app for a great newspaper!
I stuck with the new app all these months. I like reading the Globe. And the app had to get better, right? Wrong! As bad as ever. And no sign that anyone there is concerned about it. Goodbye, Globe. I will never, ever read your publication again.
Im having no trouble opening the globe or downloading it. I have no issues with crashing. I only have three complaints. 1. If I get out of the app and go back to reading, it brings me back to the front page, not where I left off reading. Really annoying. 2. Index is useless. 3. I liked being able to toggle an article between the pages it was on.
Buggy. Often doesnt open because "it needs an Internet connection" even when fully connected, wont load new days paper if you dont quit app first, wont go to new page unless you minimize page first, downloads paper even when you elect not to... I can keep going. What is John Henry thinking?
If you enjoy pulling your hair out, this app is for you. I have to delete and re-install the app every other day in order to read the paper. Like the majority of Globe eSubscribers, I have been frustrated BEYOND belief at the unreliability and inconsistency of this product. Sundays are the worst. Ive tried logging off and logging back in, turning off and turning back on my iPad. Customer Service is a joke. And do you realize we pay more for this privilege than any other daily newspaper in the US? Yup. Boston Globe $29.99 a month. New York Times $19.99. Wall Street Journal $18.29. LA Times $15.99. USA Today and Washington Post $11.99. Chicago Times, Denver Post, Dallas Morning News, Washington Times, Seattle Times and 25 others are $9.99 a month or less!! People, we are getting screwed.
Worst of several newspaper apps I access by far. The app crashes regularly and is very slow to download editions for off line reading even on a relatively fast home wi-fi (on an airport wifi it can take 30 or more minutes without crashes). Also IMPORTANT: if you want full access to Globe articles on other platforms such as Facebook or Bostonglobe.com, be sure to subscribe directly with the Globe and not through iTunes Store.
After the Globes well-publicized home delivery fiasco I didnt think it was possible to piss off customers any further, but theyve found a way with this app. I find it needs to be deleted and reinstalled every few days. It either fails to connect or fails to display properly, neither of which is recoverable. Doesnt matter if youre on screaming WiFi or LTE, the reliability of the app is totally random. And like home delivery, its been this way for months and still isnt fixed...its as if John Henry doesnt want people to read his paper.
Great newspaper with a totally useless APP. Will not load, crashes, hangs up, its enough to drive you crazy. Has been this way for months and despite promises they have yet to improve it. So bad Im just going to drop the Globe for the Washington Post
Each update worse than the previous. Im having the same problems reported by other reviewers. I send email and get completely inane replies - "do you have the latest version?" All version and build info is right there below my signature, which the app does insert correctly, along with details on my device. I think they just dont care, or theyre complete incompetents from the top down,
This app doesnt function correctly on apple products. Bugs fixes seem to make the app worse. It often fails to upload, goes blank while reading, and fails to allow readers access already downloaded papers without an internet connection. If you think home delivery is bad, just wait until you try this app.
What once was an award-winning ePaper app has gotten worse and worse with each update. The latest version seems based on a standard publishing platform with a terrible user interface. When you close the app and open it again you have to start all over again at page one. Frequently a force quit required when first opening the app in the morning based on an error message that no Internet connection has been found. Swiping to scroll is not possible in a zoomed view.
